I know, it's been a long time since my last post, but I've been VERY busy with our upcoming move!
One thing I was very happy to do this past week (I was a little nervous also) was giving my testimony at church last Sunday. As we prepare to leave for seminary, our pastor wanted us to give our testimonies (so excited to hear Clint's this Sunday). I was so afraid that I would make no sense at all and would just ramble on and on, but so many people came to tell me that they really enjoyed it. A lot of people liked the Max Lucado Grace for the Moment devotion I read at the end. Before reading it, I said that for many people January 1 is a time to make goals and evaluate where they are in life. For me, that date is February 13 because of the what the devotion for that day says. After reading it each year, I'm left asking God, "Am I on target for You?"
I now want to share this devotion with you:
"The Voice of Adventure"
Those who try to keep their lives will lose them. But those who give up their lives will save them. -Luke 17:33
There is a rawness and a wonder to life. Pursue it. Hunt for it. Sell out to get it. Don't listen to the whines of those who have settled for a second-rate life and want you to do the same so they won't feel guilty. Your goal is not to live long; it's to live.
Jesus says the options are clear. On one side there is the voice of safety. You can build a fire in the hearth, stay inside, and stay warm and dry and safe...
Or you can hear the voice of adventure--God's adventure. Instead of building a fire in your hearth, build a fire in your heart. Follow God's impulses. Adopt the child. Move overseas. Teach the class. Change careers. Run for office. Make a difference. Sure it isn't safe, but what is?
